15.08.2008 - Kyle Bruce, the final piece in the Phoenix roster
Canadian right-winger Kyle Bruce is the final summer signing for the Manchester Phoenix and his announcement helps make it a Happy Birthday for player-coach Tony Hand MBE.

Speaking about completing his roster Hand said, "It's been a long summer as I've taken my time, but with Kyle coming on board, I'm very happy with the squad we've assembled and now it's time to start preparing for the training camp. Kyle will bring us the 'power forward' element I've been looking for," added the coach who celebrates his 41st birthday today. "He's strong on the puck, gritty and he's a powerful, physical player."

Twenty-five year old right shot Kyle Bruce, originally from Garden City in British Columbia, was an 8th round draft pick of the Florida Panthers in 2001 and twice attended pre-season training camps with the NHL outfit as well his more local team, the Vancouver Canucks. A product of the tough Western Hockey League at junior level, Kyle turned professional in 2004 signing with the Columbia Inferno, before going to college to read Classical Studies. "I was studying for a BA but, found I was missing the hockey. Training and playing hockey was too important to me at that time. Going back to the East Coast Hockey League late in the 06-07 season, I joined the Idaho Steelheads and was part of their team that won the championship. That was a feeling I really liked and want to repeat."

Last season Kyle, who stands six foot and weighs in at 205lbs, played in the Central Hockey League for the Wichita Thunder where his physical style of play saw him post a career-high 247 penalty minutes. "I do play a strong, aggressive style of hockey. I play an offensive, competitive game, working as hard as I can every shift and I don't mind taking the body to win the puck back and get things going our way. I don't like losing, never have done - never will, and I'll do anything for my team and teammates. I've done some homework on Manchester and my wife Jessica and I are really looking forward to getting there. I know a number of the guys on the team and it looks a strong and talented squad."

Phoenix GM Andy Costigan added, "Kyle obviously enjoys throwing a hit as he won the "Glass Rattler of the Year" award in Wichita last season where he was immensely popular. I'm sure he'll quickly become equally as big a fan favourite in Manchester too."

15.04.2011 - Welcome back number 54
Braehead Clan are this morning proud to announce that Assistant Captain #54 Kyle Bruce will be joining the Clan for a second season. Kyle Bruce, who was the Clan’s Entertainer of the Year and Elite League nominated Entertainer of the Year, signed with the Clan for a second season following initial discussions which took place prior to him leaving Glasgow last week.

Coach Bruce Richardson had the following to say on the signing; “I am really happy that Kyle decided to come back for a second season. He did a fantastic job both on and off the ice last season and he played his Assistant Captain role with his heart on his sleeve, he is a great guy to work with and he certainly knows how to get guys motivated, never mind the crowd! I know that the fans will be over the moon to hear that he is coming back for a second season. He is a real asset to us and I am glad to have him back on the team and helping me lead the Clan on our 2011/2012 campaign. Kyle is a real gritty player and extremely versatile, when he is on the ice I know he has not only my back but every guy on the teams back. He is positive, yet aggressive, in his approach and he has such a presence on the ice. I know that I can count on him 100% no matter what. He played 43 league/cup games for us last season and notched up 38 points (14 goals and 24 assists) and 104 PIM, and that was with an injury, so I know he will come back looking to amass more points and PIMs (if I know Kyle!) and play all 54 league/cup games.”

Kyle also added; “I really enjoyed my time with the Clan last season - the fans, the team, the city. The fan base that we managed to build up in 1 season was just unbelievable and I really want to be part of the Clan legacy, so I am happy to have signed for another season. I am looking forward to some time off but at the same time I am already looking ahead to 2011/2012 and can’t wait to be back in Glasgow for an even bigger and better season in a Clan jersey.” Fan favourite Kyle Bruce is third signing for the Clan’s second season, which starts in September. He joins Bruce Richardson and Matt Haywood, both returning to the Clan roster from the inaugural season line up. Keep your eyes on the Clan Facebook, Twitter and website for all the latest signing news, Clan news and fixture confirms as and when they happen!
